Commercials depicting violent or unsafe behavior often accompany televised sports. Examination of the 50 most-watched TV sports programs over a year's time revealed that, of more than 1,000 commercials aired during these presentations, 14% displayed unsafe behavior and 6% showed violence. The Super Bowl of professional football had the highest percentage of such commercials. Almost half of commercials that contained violence were for movies; more than another one third were for TV programs. Commercials for automobiles were most likely to portray unsafe behavior (Tamburro RF et al: Pediatrics 2004;114:e694).
