Setting realistic expectations with parents of children receiving cochlear implants is very important, said John Oghalai, MD, otolaryngologist with Keck Medicine, chair of the USC Caruso Department of Otolaryngology—head and neck surgery, in a video for Contemporary Pediatrics®. He also highlighted that parents of children receiving cochlear implants that also are experiencing developmental delays must be aware of the additional therapy needed post-surgery.
