Steven Selbst, MD:
I was honored this year, really truly honored, to receive the Jim Seidel Distinguished Service Award for the section of emergency medicine. It's really like a Lifetime Achievement Award. In fact, many of my colleagues can call it being inducted into the Hall of Fame, and I'm not going to get into the Baseball Hall of Fame, I can barely reach home plate with my throw, but this really was like being in the "emergency medicine hall of fame". It was a great honor to be nominated by my colleagues and voted on by my colleagues and we had a very nice ceremony. They put together a video, so a lot of people that I've worked with over the last 4 decades, were photographed, videoed, and made tributes to me. They even got Shane Victorino, from the [Philadelphia] Phillies to come in to the video and say some words about me. So, I was they knew I was a baseball fan, so getting Shane in it was the highlight, and it really was terrific. Then I got to give it an acceptance speech, which was pretty emotional for me. I don't usually get emotional, but this was a tough one for me because the award meant so much to me, after 40 years in emergency medicine.
