A new webinar series from Sesame Street in Communities provides additional education for the health care community supporting families who face substance use disorders.
The mental toll of the COVID-19 pandemic has been intense for everybody, but for families who face substance use disorders the pandemic may increase the risk of substance use. Unfortunately many children are unable to utilize resources that could help them cope because schools remain closed. Sesame Street in Communities (SSIC), in partnership with DisposeRx,has stepped in to provide help by introducing a webinar series.
The webinar series is an expansion of their parental addiction program. The webinar series provides new resources for health care professionals and a support system for children. The first webinar “The Child’s Voice: How Parental Addiction Affects Young Children” was released on July 29, 2020 and discussed strategies to provide support and care. The other 3 webinar episodes will be released monthly.
The Parent Addiction program was launched last fall and features Karli, a 6-year-old Muppet who has a mother that is struggling with substance use.
