The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning not to consume apple-flavored Baby’s Bliss Gripe Water bearing the code 26952V, expiration date October 2008 (shown as 10/08 on the label), and distributed by MOM Enterprises, Inc. of San Rafael, Calif.

Evidence of Cryptosporidium contamination was confirmed by FDA laboratory analysis after a six-week-old infant in Minnesota became ill after consuming the water. The product is an herbal supplement used to ease the stomach pain associated with colic, hiccups, and teething. It is sold in four-ounce plastic bottles packaged inside a cardboard container.

About 17,000 bottles of the product have been distributed throughout the US between November 2006 and September 2007. The FDA is advising consumers to discard the water. MOM Enterprises is cooperating with the investigation and is recalling its products. Consumers can contact the FDA at 888-723-3366.
